The 517 is a modification of the 557 model sight. It has the side
control buttons that allow easy brightness adjustments when
magnification is mounted behind it. It keeps the popular 1.5V
AA battery power source. It also has a cantilevered base that allows
you to mount a portion of the sight over standard hand guards of many
M4 or M16 style weapons
